My series on the coastal batteries surrounding and guarding the Golden Gate recently came to a new level of completion and exposure with the publication of my piece "Guarding the Gate- the Harbor Defenses of San Francisco" in the current issue of Terrain magazine on Memorial Day. I have been receiving a lot of positive response from all types of readers who have long wondered about the context and history of these emplacements. The piece is an introduction to a much larger body of work that covers over 30 sites with their associated stories. I hope many of you will check it out and add your own information and stories in the comments section. Terrain is a thoughtful and well designed publication that bills itself as "A Journal of the Built and Natural Environment". It has poetry, ficition, interviews, columns, reviews, and a "non-fiction" section that includes artfully constructed documentary pieces. I hope you will check it out.
